Creating a Jython-Java Project

Many Jython developers use mixed Java/Jython projects. Eclipse does not provide a way to specify that a project should be recognized as a Jython project as well as a Java project. Therefore, the plug-in adds a command to the context menu to add the Jython nature to a Java project. In fact, the plug-in allows to add the Jython nature to any project. That is useful to turn a simple project into a Jython project.

These are the steps to add the Jython nature to a project:

  1. Select the project and select File>Jython>Add Jython Nature from the menu bar.

  2. The plug-in will ask a confirmation.

  3. After adding the Jython nature to a Java project, the properties of the project look like this:

Use the properties window to configure the Jython aspects of the project according to your needs.

  4. Done.

After adding the Jython nature to a Java project, the icon of the project will not change, because Eclipse uses the icon that corresponds to the first nature that was added to a project. So a Java project with the Jython nature is displayed with a Java icon.

If you ever like to remove the Jython nature, select the project and select File>Jython>Remove Jython Nature from the menu bar.
